EXISTING PHOENIX POND WITH ISSUES: WE’RE JUST GUESSING, TOO

I Have a Pond…

We’re seeing a huge increase in Phoenix homeowners calling in who have an existing pond with issues they need help with. Or they bought a home that has a pond and have no idea what to do next.

When someone calls with one of these situations, we tend to ask lots of questions, which aggravates some people. We understand the frustration of just wanting to get some help, especially if you’ve been working on the issue for some time and not getting results. But a pond is not a pond, is not a pond. Just like a car is not a car, is not a car. There are BMWs and there are Kias and there are Humvees. They all get you from point A to point B, but not in the same style.

Building Techniques

There are literally HUNDREDS of ways to a build a “pond” because there are HUNDREDS of choices for equipment, pumps, and filtration. And everyone has a different idea or definition of what a “pond” should be. That’s why we ask for photos first: so we can all get on the same page and speak the same language. You may think that we can’t tell much from a photo, but we can! It will tell us what kind of equipment you have, what your water quality is, show the construction method, and give us an idea of your overall situation.

We can’t dole out advice in good conscience without knowing what you’re dealing with. The advice we would give for one situation doesn’t always suit all situations. And we don’t work on all of the various systems out there, so we want to make sure we’re a good fit before we come charging to the rescue (and charging for that service). So, we need pictures to give us the information we need.

Information Overload

Oh, boy! As with any subject, the internet is saturated with TONS of information, a lot of it conflicting, and it can be very confusing. Many times, people will be researching on the internet and not even realize that the information they’re absorbing is intended for New York, New Jersey, or Chicago! That’s a completely different climate than our Sonoran Desert. Plants that grow well here, and water chemistry adjustments, are almost polar opposite to back East or in the Midwest.

The Bottom Line

If you don’t have a pond or water feature built by The Pond Gnome, we’re honestly just guessing, too. If you need a professional to help you out, we’d be happy to send out a knowledgeable technician to spend some time with you at an hourly rate, answer all of your questions, and inspect your water feature.

First though, with photos, we can make the determination as to whether or not we can help with your specific water feature. If we don’t feel that we’re a good fit, and are not the best choice to help, we will be completely honest with you, and probably be able to recommend someone who would be a better fit.
